Humane is a secretive tech startup that has been building buzz for over a year. At TED last month, Humane co-founder Imran Chaudhri gave a demonstration of the AI-powered wearable the company is building as a replacement for smartphones.

The device appears to be a small black puck that slips into your breast pocket, with a camera, projector, and speaker sticking out the top. Throughout the 13-minute presentation, Chaudhri walks through a handful of use cases for Humane’s gadget.

Some of the features demonstrated include receiving phone calls, asking questions and getting answers from the device, translating sentences into another language using an AI-generated clone of the user’s voice, and even getting recommendations based on personal information such as food allergies.

Chaudhri, who previously worked on design at Apple for more than two decades, pitched the device as a salve for a world covered in screens. Humane’s device is designed to be more natural by eschewing the screen and operating on its own without needing to be paired with a smartphone or any other device.

**Conclusion:**

Humane’s AI-powered wearable is an impressive demo and a neat idea. While there are still many open questions about how this device will fit into our lives, it’s exciting to see new technology being developed that aims to make our interactions with technology more natural and seamless.
