India makes historic landing on the moon’s south pole!

India has successfully landed a spacecraft near the moon’s south pole on August 23, 2023.

This is a historic moment as India is the first country to reach the lunar south pole.

The successful landing of Chandrayaan-3, which means “mooncraft” in Sanskrit, marks India’s emergence as a space power.

This was India’s second attempt to land a spacecraft on the moon. In 2019, ISRO’s Chandrayaan-2 mission successfully deployed an orbiter but its lander crashed.

This successful landing comes just days after Russia’s Luna-25, which was aiming for the same lunar region, spun into an uncontrolled orbit and crashed.

India now joins the United States, the Soviet Union and China in achieving a moon landing.
