As an experienced affiliate marketer, I wanted to share some insights about the recent launch of the Meta Quest 3 and the upcoming release of the Apple Vision Pro.
The Meta Quest 3 was launched on October 10, giving it a few months’ head start over the Apple Vision Pro, which is expected to be available early next year but with limited availability through an appointment system.
Despite the differences in availability and the anticipated difficulty in obtaining the expensive Apple AR headset, an analyst believes that Apple’s premium offering is ahead of Meta by three years.
While the Apple Vision Pro targets a completely different audience, the analyst suggests that its “experiential advantage” will attract customers.
The pricing of the two mixed-reality headsets also shows a clear disparity, with the Meta Quest 3 priced at $499 and the Apple Vision Pro priced at $3,499.
However, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s headset is technically ahead of Meta’s Quest 3 by two to three years, even though it is set to launch in early 2024.
It’s worth noting that the launch timeline for the Apple Vision Pro remains ambiguous, indicating that it may not be available in January as initially anticipated.
Kuo also mentions that the Apple Vision Pro targets a different consumer base due to its higher price, but its superior features and experience could generate more interest in the headset.
While Apple may not continue selling successors of the Vision Pro at the same price point in the future, as it aims to capture a significant portion of the market quickly, the company reportedly plans to introduce a more affordable version of the AR headset.
This lower-cost version would feature an iPhone chipset instead of a Mac one, along with a downgraded display and other features to decrease its price.
Unfortunately, the AR headset market is currently facing challenges.
Kuo mentions that Meta has reduced its fourth-quarter shipments forecast for the Quest 3 by up to 10%, indicating a potential decline of up to 80% quarter-over-quarter for the first quarter of 2024.
Despite the Meta Quest 3’s relatively affordable price of $499, the market for AR headsets needs further maturity before gaining significant traction.
Sincerely,
Levi
